"Faro del Saber Morelos" TELMEX Digital Library was inaugurated in Reforma Pensil, in Mexico City's Miguel Hidalgo Delegation.

  • As part of the Telmex-Carlos Slim Foundation Program for Digital Culture and Education, a new TELMEX Digital Library was inaugurated in Mexico City's Miguel Hidalgo Delegation, which will benefit more than 985,000 people in the area.

  • Visitors will have access to the aprende.org digital platform, which makes modern, world-quality educational content in different areas of knowledge available to everyone free of charge, by means of initiatives such as Train for Work, which offers training for more than 72 different jobs and trades.

Mr. Carlos Slim Helú, accompanied by Ms. Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz, head of Mexico City's Miguel Hidalgo Delegation; Ms. Gabriela Salido, executive director of Social Development in this same Delegation; TELMEX Director General Héctor Slim Seade, Ms. Christiane Hajj of the Carlos Slim Foundation, and TELMEX Education Program Coordinator Octavio Orozco, inaugurated the new "Faro del Saber Morelos" TELMEX Digital Library, located in the Reforma Pensil neighborhood of the Miguel Hidalgo Delegation.

This new Digital Library will offer students, teachers, and parents the necessary educational accompaniment and advice to boost their digital skills and development in different areas such as job seeking and healthcare, as well as education. The new facilities offer visitors 100 Mb broadband Internet access free of charge, with more than 70 latest generation desktop computers and laptops for training and free internet use. This library joins a list of more than 3,600 TELMEX Digital Libraries already operating throughout the country.

Mr. Octavio Orozco stressed that the use of Information Technology in education was fundamental for Mexico's development, and that for this reason, digital inclusion was being promoted for the entire population regardless of age and level of technological know how, by means of the Digital Culture and Education Program implemented jointly with the Carlos Slim Foundation.

Ms. Christiane Hajj highlighted the commitment of the Carlos Slim Foundation to the promotion of activities in the areas of education, health, sports, culture, and the job market, to boost the development of local residents. 


Meanwhile, Delegation Head Xóchitl Gálvez declared that thanks to the joint work with Mr. Carlos Slim, better opportunities were opening up for the future of children and youths, given that education transforms us and makes us better people.

It is important to highlight the fact that this new library offers visitors access to the aprende.org digital platform, which makes modern, world-class educational content in different areas of knowledge available to everyone, free of charge. This platform includes the most prominent content promoted by the Carlos Slim Foundation in areas such as training, education, culture, and healthcare, in the form of initiatives such as: Train for Work, Innovating Teacher, PruébaT (Test Yourself), Khan Academy en Español, Académica, Coursera, Udacity, MIT, and Clikisalud.

The “Faro del Saber Morelos” TELMEX Digital Library is located on Lago Erne St., on the corner of Lago Trasimeno St., in Miguel Hidalgo Delegation's Reforma Pensil neighborhood, and it is open to the public from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 7 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 4 pm.
