Outstanding professionals receive the 2015 Carlos Slim Health Awards in recognition to their innovative solutions in health matters in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In recognition to their exceptional research and work to improve the health conditions of populations living in Latin American and the Caribbean, the Carlos Slim Foundation granted the 2015 Carlos Slim Health Awards in the following fields:

  • Research career: the award was granted to Dr. Ana Flisser Steinbruch, researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) for her findings in the field of cysticercoids. Since 1978 her work has mainly focused on the development and application of methods to improve immunological diagnosis for the clinical treatment of this ailment.

  • Outstanding institution: the award was granted to the Foundation Center for Infectious Disease Studies (FUNCEI), based in Argentina and founded and chaired by Dr. Daniel Stamboulian. FUNCEI works with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement an integral model to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.

For eight consecutive years, the Carlos Slim Health Awards were granted in 2015 as a means to recognize the efforts of outstanding individuals and institutions to find innovative solutions in the health sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, benefitting the most vulnerable populations in the region.

The award ceremony took place in the context of the Health 2015 conference organized by the Carlos Slim Foundation with the attendance of Dr. Mercedes Juan, Mexico’s Secretary of Health; Dr. José Antonio González Anaya, Director General of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS); Mr. Carlos Slim Helú; Mr. Marco Antonio Slim Domit and Dr. Roberto Tapia Conyer, Director General of the Carlos Slim Foundation.
