In the ceremony, the University Chancellor, Mr. Cipriano Sanchez García, detailed:
Mario Buenrostro Perdomo, Director of the Engineering School, emphasized the philanthropic work of the businessman through his initiatives, which have also promoted the country’s development.
In his expression of thanks, Eng. Carlos Slim Helú said, “It has been very pleasing for me, and I am deeply grateful, it has been even exciting and special that this major distinction is given to me.”
And he shared a few words with the youngsters, especially a letter he wrote over 30 years ago, more relevant today than ever, where he stated, “Live with no fears and no regrets. Fear is the worst feeling human beings can have. It makes us weak, inhibits us from action and depresses us. Living with fear is the worst that can happen to us, and regret is a burden. That is, go to confession. In our thinking and acting, and in our life, fears and regrets make the present difficult and hamper the future. Get rid of them, fears and regrets!”
