The Soumaya Museum, in Plaza Carso, and its pieces of art, framed the Italy-Mexico 2024 Prize awarding ceremony to Eng. Carlos Slim Helú, President-for-Life of the Carso Group, distinction granted by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico.

In the event, Mr. Lorenzo Vianello, President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico, said, “This is a real honor, because not so long ago, Mr. Slim told me how they began making businesses with Italy, and it is really wonderful to see what they have done, and how they continue contributing to society. Thank you very much for receiving us here, at your home, and for making this museum something extraordinary, with a lot of art from all over the world, and Italian art.”

Eng. Carlos Slim Helú, President-for-Life of the Carso Group, added, “I want to thank you all for being here. I want to express my gratitude to the Italian Chamber of Commerce, and especially to the Ambassador.” And after these words, he shared some actions taken by the Carso Group to tighten the economic and commercial links between both countries. One example, which is fundamental, is that with the Italian company, Pirelli.

“Condumex was owned by Pirelli, and they decided to sell it. They were going to make a market offer, but we already owned 16 or 17% of the company, and made a direct purchase. This was a relevant operation. Condumex is a great company, and has served as holding to acquire some others, as it is integrated not only with wire production, but also wire harnesses, for the relevant sector of automotive parts in Mexico”, Mr. Slim added.

Eng. Slim also received the Art and Culture Special Recognition granted to the Soumaya Museum - Carlos Slim Foundation, from the hands of Lorenzo Vianello, President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico, who stated that, “With the Soumaya Museum we celebrate in a big way, the cultural and artistic relations between our countries.”

Here, Mr. Carlos Slim detailed a part of the large collection of Italian art displayed in the Soumaya Museum, and explained: “The Museum if proud of having gotten these replicas, for example, those of The Pietàs. This is the only place in the world where the three of them have been together. We know that they are in different places in Italy, but here we have all the three of them. We have also been able to have a replica of the Veiled Christ.”

“In the Soumaya Museum, we have pieces of 236 different Italian artists, and the Venice Collection has over 1,200 pieces ranging from the 15th to the 21st centuries, which have been temporarily exhibited. Now, they are displayed in the Loreto Museum. And I just want to thank the Italian Chamber of Commerce for this recognition made to the Soumaya Museum,” he concluded.
