Mr. Roberto Slim participated in the name of Mr. Carlos Slim in the official launching of EDUCATION FIRST initiative in the United Nations’ General Assembly in New York.

Mr. Roberto Slim attended the working meetings of the Global Business Coalition for Education in the name of Mr. Carlos Slim. The working meetings were carried out during the side events of United Nations’ General Assembly, in which United Nations’ General Secretary, Ban Ki-Moon, launched the initiative “EDUCATION FIRST”, aimed to support the fulfillment of the educational Millennium Goals, a mission entrusted to Gordon Brown, United Kingdom’s former Prime Minister.
The Global Business Coalition for Education is supported by United Nations, UNESCO, UNICEF and NGO, as well as leaders and presidents from several nations. “EDUCATION FIRST” aim is to accelerate the educational development in the whole world, being supported by a starting 1.5 billion dollar investment to carry out the 2015 year goal, encompassing three specific objectives: universal children access to school, improving teaching quality, and promoting global citizenship.
The Global Business Coalition for Education (GBC-Ed) is the entrepreneurial district aimed to support United Nations’ General Secretary educational priorities. Mr. Carlos Slim stands for the only one Latin American member of the Latin America Advisory Board.
In his speech, Mr. Roberto Slim informed about Mexico’s educational progress to United Nations Special Envoy, Gordon Brown, due to educational programs being developed by Telmex and Carlos Slim Foundation, among which we list the following:
In this way, TELMEX and Carlos Slim Foundation support all-level digital education in order to insert Mexico in Information Technology new Era and looking to diminish Mexico’s Digital Gap in respect to more developed economies.
