18 December 2013. Plaza Nuevo Veracruz, Veracruz.

With the participation of Dr. Javier Duarte de Ochoa, governor of the state of Veracruz; Mr. Carlos Slim Helú, honorary life president of Grupo Carso; Mr. Miguel Alemán Velasco, former governor of Veracruz; Mr. Carlos Slim Domit, president of Grupo Carso; Mr. Héctor Slim Seade, director general of TELMEX, Mr. Alfonso Salem, president of Inmuebles Carso, and Veracruz Mayor Carolina Gudiño Corro, a ceremony was held today to inaugurate the TELMEX Veracruz Digital Library, located in Plaza Nuevo Veracruz, which opened its doors to offer training in digital skills and the use of information technologies to people of all ages and schooling levels, regardless of their current digital expertise. TELMEX and the Carlos Slim Foundation are behind this program of Digital Culture and Education, which has already benefited more than 3.5 million people throughout the country.

The TELMEX Veracruz Digital Library is a unique space located in the facilities of the Plaza Nuevo Veracruz shopping center, covering an area of more than 1,000 square meters and with the capacity to attend to 500 people per day, with access to more than 340 items of computer equipment for loan and use in workshops, as well as Internet access at a speed of 10 Gb, and an educational offer specially tailored to the needs of each type of user. The facilities are divided into five different learning areas: Navigation, Digital Challenges, Auditorium, Exhibitions, and Workshops, where users will have access to 500 connectivity nodes for navigation and a multimedia development lab.

The TELMEX Veracruz Digital Library is a permanently open, freely accessible, inclusive space, in which all participants can experience and acquire comprehensive digital knowhow completely free of charge. The library's operations build on the great experience of the 2013 TELMEX Digital Village, which was held in Mexico City's Zocalo Square in March of this year, winning a Guinness World Record as the largest digital inclusion event in the world.

To this end, the TELMEX Veracruz Digital Library will offer a broad range of educational options tailored to different levels of digital skills and knowhow, which will be available to participants ranging from novices who have never used a computer to experts in information technologies.

The educational offer at the library includes the following:

Based on varying skillsets, development of digital knowhow, and different education levels among the participants, the courses on offer will be expanded continually, ranging from content addressed to basic education students such as "Basic digital skills," "Internet safety," and "Digital communication tools," to diplomas and seminars addressed to high school and higher education students such as "Building public and private clouds in data centers" or "Android and Linux development on mobile devices," in addition to other certificates and postgraduate courses. This will add up to a comprehensive educational offer consisting of more than 40 different courses, specially created to fulfill digital learning requirements at all levels.

The TELMEX Veracruz Digital Library will be open to the public from Monday to Sunday, from 10 am to 7 pm.

This Digital Library is a step in the right direction that seeks to contribute to the globalization of Digital Culture, as it is currently unthinkable to educate without technology, and thanks to technology it is possible to guarantee universal access to education and to provide quality education to the entire population.

TELMEX Director General Hector Slim Seade stressed that the TELMEX Veracruz Digital Library was a space that would benefit thousands of children, youths, adults, and elderly people, thanks to its diversified and specialized educational offer, tailored to the needs of each type of user, with the aim of ensuring that technology would grant them access to better opportunities in terms of education, employment, and knowledge.

TELMEX and the Carlos Slim Foundation are strengthening their permanent national strategy to favor the digital inclusion of the Mexican people.
