The World Boxing Council did award Mr. Carlos Slim the WBC Humanitarian Prize of the Year by his support to the boxing world.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) did award Mr. Carlos Slim the Humanitarian Prize of the Year during the 48th WBC Annual Convention in Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico, from October 31 to November 6, 2010, which gathered representatives from 164 associated countries and all of the multifarious federations which are part of it.
Mr. Slim’s acknowledgment was given due to his bestowal to the world boxing, his economic support to Mexican pugilists, both amateur and professional, retirees and active, and above all, life pensions for Mexican box legends.
José Sulaimán, WBC president, said that this award was given to Mr. Slim because of his generous bestowal to the world boxing, specially the life pensions he has given to 22 former Mexican world champions.
Mr. Slim’s actions in support of retiree former champions and promising young pugilists were underlined during the ceremony.
