Mr. Carlos Slim received the Gibran National Committee Award for his contribution to spreading the knowledge of the poet, philosopher and painter Gibran Khalil Gibran.

On September 27, 2012, Mr. Carlos Slim Helú received the Gibran National Committee Award for his contribution to spreading the knowledge of Gibran Khalil Gibran, his philosophy, his art and his literature around the world. Mr. Slim had also contributed to safeguarding Gibran's works and personal effects by acquiring a large collection of the same from one of Gibran's relatives. Parts of this collection are exhibited at the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City.
The award ceremony took place in Lebanon, at the famous Casino du Liban on the Mediterranean coastline north of Beirut. The gala dinner was accompanied by a musical show and was televised on Lebanon's MTV television network. Mr. Z. A. Hayek received the award on behalf of Mr. Carlos Slim.
