Carso Awards for Health, Nutrition and Environment 2008 (now named Carlos Slim Health Awards)
The Carso Awards for Health, Nutrition and Environment were instituted to reward both persons and institutions whose health work has improved the Latin America and the Caribbean region living conditions. The economic reward amounts 100,000 dollars for each of the following categories: Health Systems Improving Innovation, Individual Research Career, and Excellence Health and Institution.
In the year 2008 (first edition), a jury being composed by outstanding Latin America leaders did adjudicate the Carso Awards to the following persons and institutions:
- Health Systems Improving Innovation:
Dr. Guillermo Soberón, from México.
- Individual Research Career:
Dr. Cesar Gomes Victora, from Brazil.
- Excellence Institution:
Socios en Salud / Peru Branch.
